About Dr Swati Rajagopal

“The study and control of infectious diseases has always fascinated me. Since my MBBS days I have been passionate about understanding the patho-physiology of infectious diseases. What has intrigued me is how easy it is to save lives of the poor by inculcating simple precautions on personal hygiene, sanitation, nutrition and overall cleanliness. I have made efforts to contribute to society and community through active involvement in pulse polio immunization campaigns and offering free medical service in villages in India.”

Dr Swati Rajagopal completed her primary medical training at MS Ramaiah Medical College, affiliated to Bangalore University, followed by post graduate specialization in Infectious Diseases at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, affiliated to the University of Sydney. Dr Rajagopal went on to pursue her specialization in tropical diseases, travel medicine and infection control at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

She was awarded the Fellow of the Royal Society of Public Health for her exemplary work in Public Health and Control of Communicable Diseases.

Infectious Diseases: Clinical investigation, diagnosis, and management of complex microbial, viral, fungal, and mycobacterial pathogens, hospital epidemiology, and multi-drug resistant organism containment.

Travel Medicine: Pre-travel risk assessment, international destination-specific immunisation protocols, chemoprophylaxis, and post-travel febrile illness evaluation.

Dr Rajagopal's primary special interest is infection in the immunocompromised host, covering prevention, diagnosis and treatment in kidney, liver, heart and bone marrow transplant recipients, patients with HIV, and patients undergoing chemotherapy for cancer; adult immunisation; travel health advice.
